Client Goals
Mereway were looking for an access control solution which benefited from good security and safety features but also ensured the smooth running of round-the-clock HGV transport activity.
Darfen Solution
Given the continuous usage of the clients’ haulage yard it was suggested by Darfen that an automated sliding gate would be the ideal solution as both vehicular and pedestrian access can easily be controlled. The existing opening was 10 metres wide in order to allow plenty of room for heavy goods vehicles, with this in mind the Orion, which copes effortlessly with wide openings, was specified.
The Orion Cantilever Sliding gate does not only provide optimum performance but it also benefits from numerous safety features which was very important for Mereway. In the event of a vehicle stalling whilst the gate is in closing motion, the infrared sensor would send a signal to the control unit to re-open the gate. Two vehicle induction loop sensors were installed in addition to the standard safety features on the gate to further prevent anything being struck. A proximity read (for key fobs), a digital keypad, and visitor intercom were integrated with the gate as different methods of control for employees, visitors or drivers.
The Orion gate benefits from good aesthetics when galvanised but in order to match the existing fence line at Mereway, and to mirror thier corporate image, Darfen specially arranged for the gate to be powder colour coated in matching blue.
In just three days Mereway became a more secure and safer site round the clock.
