Equipment Installed
- 2.4 mtr high Triton welded mesh panel system installed at the main perimeter at 16 Schools.
- Multimesh sports fencing for the sports pitches at selected schools.
- 1.0 mtr high self raking railings installed at several nurseries.
- Gates installed at various entrance points around each of the schools.
- Timber fencing around the bin stores at all schools.
Client Goals
To secure 16 Schools in the North Lanarkshire area, in line with guidelines set out by Zurich Municipal and the Lord Cullen enquiries into school security.
Darfen Solution
The Airdrie branch of Darfen began working closely with Balfour Beatty from the very start of the project and endeavoured to come up with a pleasing but high performance solution. Darfen, each of the 16 Schools and the Architects all worked together to come up with a solution that served the needs of the entire school community.
The schools had various perimeter requirements which were recognised from the start of the project; the outer perimeter was required to be at least 2.4 meters high, the gates had to be as anti-climb as possible, and the sports fence durable enough to withstand the force of high impact sports.
After careful consideration, it was agreed to select the Darfen Triton system for the main school perimeters and the double-skinned Multimesh for the sports pitches. Both systems are less susceptible to vandalism which is of key emphasis in the guidelines the schools hoped to work towards. In particular the Triton system features anti-tamper fixings which have ultimately helped deter intruders.
The installation has proved to be the perfect solution for all of the schools involved, and has not only met, but, exceeded the security guidelines required. Each of the systems combines an aesthetic appearance with appropriate security features and has proved to be a success at all North Lanarkshire schools involved, and their school communities.
