Darfen Solution
Darfen recognise that good security at Power Stations in the UK is of utmost importance and in order to meet the clients desire to achieve world class standards of security we were pleased to offer one of the most secure fencing systems on the market, the Zenith Security System. The Zenith Security system is the Home Office approved welded mesh for prison fencing, which is now being increasingly used at other high security applications in the UK. The system benefits from anti-vandal, anti-tamper and anti-climb features and therefore proved a suitable perimeter protection solution for Eggborough Power. The Zenith system is tightly configured with gaps of just 5mm, meaning that there are no foot holds, toe holds or finger holds whatsoever therefore providing excellent intruder and attack deterrence. Darfen added Razor Tape Security toppings to the fencing system to further increase security, whilst also providing a physical and psychological deterrent to would-be intruders.
The Northern branch installed the fencing whilst working to strict security procedures on site as the works progressed. The installation has provided the station with a robust perimeter solution which has proved its damage prevention benefits when there was a recent attack to the fence where an intruder tried (but failed) to breach the perimeter using a bolt-cropping type tool. Darfen’s Rapid Response team arrived on site within 24 hours to replace the panel.
Darfen Northern worked within Eggborough’s timescale and budgetary requirements by scheduling the works into a number of phases over two years and the first phase of approx 5000 metres was completed within 16 weeks.
