Client Goals
To provide perimeter safety and security on a City Centre demolition/new build site.
Darfen Solution
Darfen Steelhoard is a re-usable site hoarding system used to secure sites and compounds for many of the UK's leading construction and house building companies.
The site consists of the demolition of one seven storey, and an eight storey building, and then the construction of two six storey buildings located in the City Centre of Leeds. Steelhoard was therefore used to provide site security by forming a 2.4m high boundary to the perimeter of the site from ground level, which was then enhanced by the addition of barb-wire taking the fence up to a height of 3m, adding to the anti-climb capacity.
Safety was also a concern, again due to the City Centre location, and the fact that there is a live college next to the site. The Steelhoard acts as a safety barrier in that the site is contained from ground level, therefore protecting the public from any debris and obstructions.
The Steelhoard was polyester coated white on both sides with a black band painted with industrial cellulose around the top of the face of each sheet, in keeping with Barr Constructions' corporate colours, therefore enhancing their image.
Three double leaf gates were installed into the compound in order to provide vehicular access as well as one pedestrian access gate.
